How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows provide a variety of perks for homeowners in Indianapolis, one being improved energy efficiency. Whether you’re looking online or with a specialist at a showroom, energy efficiency is a crucial factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great choice if you’re looking for increased efficiency.

Most new double-pane windows are filled with argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is denser than air, which offers additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you notice that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you’ve likely developed a bigger leak and the gas has been switched with moisture. There are a few things that you can do to check to see if this is what’s occurred:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re finding is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you realize that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can get ahold of the manufacturer to determine if it falls underneath your warranty.
Depending on the age of your windows and the conditions surrounding the leak, it may make sense to start researching replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important features of your windows, and if that is altered it can impact your heating and cooling expenses.
